Where to install a suspended catamaran net?

A catamaran net is, as its name suggests, originally made to equip multi-hull sailboats. It is therefore very robust: a sailor must be able to walk on it, the net must withstand waves in the open sea... It is resistant to water and UV.

Used as a decorative and furnishing item at home, it can therefore be installed both indoors and outdoors!

Indoors

In a house or a loft, the catamaran net fills a void in a floor and becomes a mezzanine net.

You can install it above the living room, above a hallway, in a bedroom...

Fixed vertically, it becomes an excellent railing net that provides protection against falls for people and animals. Ideal for securing a staircase or a mezzanine.

Outdoors

All our catamaran nets for residential use are designed to resist water and UV: they do not mold, do not deteriorate with rain, and remain outdoors even in winter under snow and frost.

Very good for integrating it into a terrace, turning it into a sun lounger, or using it as a railing.

Your net will therefore adapt to your chosen installation without problem. The only constraint, which we will come back to later, will be related to color.

What is a catamaran net used for at home?

The catamaran net can be used for various projects at home or in your garden.

Tell us where and how you want to use it. The way you use your catamaran net will help us better understand your needs and advise you best. Because we take everything into account: your desires, your constraints, the conditions to which the material will be exposed, the best fixings, the adapted installation technique... We truly make custom products!

Catamaran net for mezzanine

This is the most common case: to fill a void in a house or loft, and to exploit more space.

The mezzanine net allows you to create a suspended floor, which lets in light, and which costs much less in work than installing a real floor.

Catamaran net for railings

A railing net gives you more freedom regarding the choice of mesh, in particular.
You can indeed choose larger meshes that will let in more light.

Thus, you secure a staircase or a suspended terrace, while having a bright and pleasant living space.

Outdoor net

To install it outdoors and use it as a terrace net, or to make it a sun lounger, it will be preferable to choose a color that does not fade too much with UV: mainly white or black.

Also, the fixings must be chosen carefully: with rain, rust quickly sets in.
That's why we offer high-quality stainless steel fixings, including 316L stainless steel, also known as "marine stainless steel," because it resists corrosion even in a marine environment.

What level of comfort are you looking for?

Do you want a truly comfortable residential net that lasts?

Because if you do renovations, and after 2 years you no longer feel comfortable on your mezzanine net and no longer use it, that's a bit of a shame.

You might see nets on the web that, under a person's weight, form a large hollow, a large pocket where you sink in. It's fun the first time!
But have you tested it? It quickly becomes difficult and tiring to get out of this type of equipment.

You won't find that with us!
Our nets form a very firm floor. It's neither a giant hammock nor a trampoline.
This ensures great comfort of use for years.

With this, your deck will be superb and last a long time.

What mesh type?

We offer 2 types of mesh for residential nets.

Knotted Mesh

Knotted meshes have knots.
These are not pleasant when walking or lying on them. We therefore only recommend them for use as a railing net, fixed vertically to protect a balcony or a staircase, for example.

Woven Mesh

All catamaran nets used as mezzanine, deck, or sunbathing nets that we manufacture are made with knotless woven mesh.

This makes the net very pleasant to the touch and ensures optimal comfort. Lying on it for a nap or reading a good book becomes a real pleasure. Children will also be very comfortable playing and moving on it, even barefoot: we consider the comfort of your little ones.

Even more aesthetic and of better quality than the knotted mesh net, this catamaran net can of course be used as a guardrail.

What mesh size?

There are many mesh sizes, however the 3 most common meshes for a mezzanine net are:

• 13 x 13 mm: the choice for optimal safety and comfort
• 30 x 30 mm: the most versatile and common ⭐
• 50 x 50 mm: the aesthetic and airy choice

The 13 mm mesh is ideal for a very comfortable mezzanine net, even with young children. These tight meshes form a dense mat that provides good support for the body or the soles of the feet.

The 30 mm mesh is suitable for everything. It offers a good balance between comfort, safety, and aesthetics. It has a sufficiently open appearance without being too "grid-like" and is perfectly suited for lying down or relaxing.

The 50 mm mesh, we reserve it for the railing net. This is quickly understood: on the floor, a small 5 cm space could allow a small foot, a toy to pass through... Whereas as a railing, it's perfect.

We can manufacture other types of nets or make other mesh sizes, but this is always and only after studying your project.

What dimensions or shapes?

We manufacture your net to measure: size, shape... we adapt!

Certainly, a very complex or impossible shape (for example, with a hole in the center) will not be achievable. But we adapt to our customers' wishes, and this leaves you a very wide choice: square, rectangular, triangular, with a rounded edge, hexagonal...

And we can make nets of all sizes.

If you want to install a very large net, it is preferable to contact us beforehand to study your project. We can manufacture it, but the installation will be more complex.

What colors are available?

You are imagining your future interior or exterior design...
What will your living room look like with this suspended net in the house?
Will the net integrate well with the wooden deck in the garden?

First good news for those who want to create a personalized cozy nest: we can dye your residential net in many colors!
Grey, yellow, blue, red, green, anthracite...

In detail, not all mesh sizes are available in the same colors: this needs to be adjusted with you according to your project.

However, there is one constraint: UV exposure.
Sunlight, with its UV rays, will quickly fade the net. Even with deep dyeing, throughout the fibers.

The more the net is in a place exposed to sunlight, for example facing a large bay window, or outdoors, the more UV will damage the dye. In this case, it is recommended to simply opt for a white or black net, which will hold up better over time.

What is the lifespan of a catamaran net?

If you're undertaking renovations in your house or apartment, you're looking for a long-term and secure investment. We at Corderie Gautier understand this very well and put ourselves in your shoes.

With a poor product choice, or unsuitable material, you might need to re-tension your net after a few years or even redo the installation.
That would be a shame!

A catamaran net has an easy lifespan of 10 years. Some of our customers have had the same net in place for over 15 years!
