Polyester and polyamide
Most boat mooring lines are made of polyamide or polyester.
These materials are UV and water resistant, have good abrasion resistance and a high breaking load.
Polyamide has better dynamic elongation than polyester, but both are suitable for absorbing sea shocks.
While a polyamide mooring line tends to be stiffer and more difficult to handle, it can, however, offer unbeatable abrasion resistance and be used for winter mooring.
Polyester is often used for various marine ropes on sailboats, mainly halyards and sheets, but also for securing cargo on deck or in the cabin.
Good elongation
To avoid damaging the boat, marine rope must allow the sailboat to follow the movement of the water and tide, without being too rigid.
Thus, the mooring line absorbs shocks and acts as a shock absorber when the sailboat is tossed, instead of transferring energy. 12 to 20% is good elongation for your mooring ropes.
Mooring chain

Perfect for anchoring, with a very high breaking load.
In some difficult conditions in port, with completely rusted rings or an abrasive quay, a chain can also be used on this section to protect mooring lines that would otherwise be too quickly damaged by rust (be careful of chafing on the bow).
