For your fastening and stainless steel marine hardware needs on the boat or at the dock.
Why choose a 316 (A4) marine grade stainless steel shackle?
Stainless steel exists in several formulas and compositions.
Your boat's marine hardware is subjected to harsh conditions: rain, seawater, salt. The accessories on board the vessel must therefore have very good corrosion resistance.
This is the case for 316 or A4 stainless steel, also known as marine grade stainless steel.
On a sailboat, shackles are often used for sails, at the tack and halyard points, as well as for connecting a rope to another element on deck or at the dock.
The marine industry, moreover, doesn't only concern sailing: fishing boats, trawlers, oyster farming... so many professionals at sea who may need shackles.
Shackle for inland navigation
Shackles are most often mentioned for marine use, but they are also obviously used for inland navigation.
A marine grade stainless steel shackle, resistant to corrosion and salt, will be just as suitable for use on a river with a less corrosive environment.
The stainless steel shackle can be used on the anchor chain of a dinghy, or for handling freight on a barge.
Shackle composition
You will find them in multiple shapes, sizes, and constructions. They are chosen according to needs and use.
Straight, long, bow, D, or twisted shackle: fastening situations and needs are varied. Therefore, various forms of stirrups are found.
The pin can be self-locking and captive: you cannot lose it.
Tip
Some sailors use the pin of a stainless steel shackle as a weight when they need to pass a messenger line through the mast to change halyards.
Steel shackle (A4)
More economical than those made of stainless steel, we also offer high-strength steel shackles.
With very good breaking strength, they have a WLL of up to 55 tons.
