Size guide

Three criteria to define when configuring your rope: length, diameter and attachment finish.

Step 1 — Choose the length

The rope attaches above the climbing point. Measure the height of your attachment point, then subtract approximately 30 cm to get the appropriate rope length.

Rope length Attachment height
2.00 m 2.30 m and above
2.20 m 2.50 m and above
2.70 m 3.00 m and above
3.00 m 3.30 m and above
3.20 m 3.50 m and above
3.70 m 4.00 m and above
4.00 m 4.30 m and above
5.00 m 5.30 m and above
6.00 m 6.30 m and above
7.00 m 7.30 m and above
8.00 m 8.30 m and above
9.00 m 9.30 m and above
10.00 m 10.30 m and above
11.00 m 11.30 m and above
12.00 m 12.30 m and above

The stated length corresponds to the knotted rope, including the attachment. The bottom of the rope should remain approximately 30 to 40 cm from the ground.

Step 2 — Choose the diameter

The diameter determines both the rope's robustness and grip comfort. The larger it is, the more resistant the rope, but the less easy it is for small hands to grasp.

Diameter Audience and use Grip
16 mm Children, garden swing set, low height Thin, child's hand
18 mm Versatile family use Intermediate
20 mm Teenagers and adults, regular use Comfortable
22 mm — best-seller All audiences, communities, gyms Full hand
24 mm Adults, intensive use, sports courses Generous
26 mm and above Tree climbing, collective leisure structures Very wide

For a family swing set, 20 to 22 mm remains the best compromise between strength and comfort.

Step 3 — Choose the finish

The top finish determines the attachment method, the bottom finish the appearance of the free end.

Finish Description Recommended for
Ring + marine stainless steel thimble Splice on thimble, 316 stainless steel Permanent outdoor, seaside
Simple spliced loop Handmade loop, no metal Around a branch or beam
Stainless steel lyre shackle Quick release, adjustable height Rope regularly detached
Knotted bottom end Final stopper knot Standard, included by default
Spliced bottom end Whipped finish, more aesthetic Gyms, visible structures

Care advice

Natural hemp requires minimal care. Brush the rope dry to remove dust and dirt: avoid water, which prolongs drying time and promotes mold. Never use solvents or high-pressure cleaners. If the rope has become damp, let it air dry in the shade before any use. Unhook it and store it in a dry place during winter or long periods of disuse.

Product details

The original climbing rope

Natural hemp is the historic fiber for climbing ropes: the one used in gyms, fencing halls, and old-fashioned gymnastic apparatus. Its slightly rough surface offers a grip that no synthetic fiber can provide, and its patina improves with age. It's the choice for authenticity, for a rope that's as much admired as it is used.

It can be installed in a gym, under a canopy, in a barn, on an interior frame, or on a sheltered porch.

Natural grip

The hemp fiber grips the palm without slipping, even on a long hold. Combined with regularly spaced knots, it makes climbing accessible to a wide audience: children, beginners, and occasional users. Where a smooth rope demands military-style physical condition, a knotted rope allows for challenging but achievable apparatus and exercises.

This is the go-to apparatus for sports halls, clubs, indoor obstacle courses, rooms with high ceilings, and character installations.

Natural hemp or synthetic hemp?

Natural hemp offers the authentic look, smell, and feel, as well as better grip. However, it is a living fiber: it absorbs moisture, swells, dries slowly, and eventually mildews if exposed to rain. Reserve it for indoor use or under shelter. For a permanent outdoor installation, opt for our synthetic hemp knotted rope, which is rot-proof and UV-treated.

Artisanal French manufacturing

Each rope is handcrafted in our workshops. Splices are made manually, without the addition of plastic parts: the finish is clean, flexible, and durable, unlike the crimped terminations found on entry-level products.

Mounting included

Depending on the chosen finish, the rope comes ready-to-use with its attachment system: stainless steel ring and thimble, simple spliced loop, or stainless steel shackle. No complex assembly is required.

Safety

The higher the attachment point, the more essential precautions become. Provide an appropriate landing area under the rope (gym mat or soft flooring) and, for less experienced users, a harness and a belay rope. Natural hemp requires more frequent inspection than synthetic fiber: regularly check the condition of the strands, knots, and anchor point, especially after exposure to moisture. Rope supplied with usage precautions.
