Size Guide

How to choose the size of your hay net?

  • 100 mm mesh: limit hay waste, introduce the net to horses.
  • 60 mm mesh: slow down forage intake and prepare the horse for slow feeding.
  • 45 mm mesh: slow feeding.
  • 30 mm mesh: intensify slow feeding, for horses that handle it very well.

In summary: the smaller the mesh size, the more forage intake is slowed down to reinforce the practice of slow feeding.

Care advice
  • Remove small branches, roots, and debris from the net.
  • Wash with clear, cold water.
  • If the hay net is very dirty, wash it with a little Marseille soap or black soap.
  • Never use laundry detergent, cleaning agents, fabric softener, or bleach.

For square hay bales

This hay net is perfectly suited to square hay bales. Available in standard sizes or custom-made.

Our standard dimensions fit most square hay bales you can buy or make yourself.
Need a much larger net? Or a smaller one?
We also make them to measure.

Reduce hay waste

Covering a hay bale with a net significantly reduces waste. Horses cannot spread the forage around, the hay stays clean, and the bale lasts longer.
This hay net can help you make significant savings.

Slow feeding

A hay net is a widely used and recognised slow feeder. Slow feeding helps reduce the speed at which horses eat, encouraging feeding behaviour that is closer to their natural grazing habits and better suited to their physiological needs.

Choose the mesh size according to the desired feed rate.

On a hay net for square bales, the mesh size allows you to directly modulate access to the forage. A large mesh makes it easier to grab the hay; a tighter mesh requires more time from the horse.

  • 100 mm: to reduce waste while maintaining easy access to hay. A good choice for introducing the net.
  • 60 mm: to start slowing down consumption.
  • 45 mm: for slow feedinguse.
  • 35 mm: to intensify slow feeding with a horse already accustomed to small mesh sizes.
