Area to protect
The simplest case is when you have a well-defined area to cover and protect from birds.
For example, if you have installed a metal or wooden frame, or if you have securely stretched steel cables above your plants, you can easily calculate the area to cover.
Simply take the length multiplied by the width of the area you want to protect.
Remember to include the sides of your structure, down to the ground: there should be no possible passage for birds.
Generally, you will get a large square or a large rectangle.

Protecting a fruit tree
To preserve your fruit harvests (cherries, apricots, etc.), a fruit tree protection net is ideal. But how do you measure an anti-bird net to protect a fruit tree, like a cherry tree?
Especially if it's already large...
Here's a simple and practical tip!
1 - Measure the longest branches
Start by measuring, on the ground from the trunk, the longest branches to get the maximum width of the branches.
2 - Form a square
From this width, form a large square with the tree trunk at its center.
Normally, no branches should extend beyond this square.
3 - Measure the height
Measure the height of the highest branches.
For this, you can, for example, use a laser rangefinder and aim at the branches at the top of the tree, starting from the ground.
You can also attach the end of a measuring tape to a long rod. Or just estimate the height, if you have a good eye for it.
With the ground area and the height, you can calculate the volume needed to fully cover and protect your tree.
If you have any doubts, you can provide us with the measured dimensions (square on the ground, and height of the tree).
You will then have an anti-bird net of the correct dimensions, which will completely cover your tree and protect the fruits.
For professionals
Professionals (arboriculturists, market gardeners, etc.) may have very large areas to cover and protect from birds.
In these cases, we recommend not taking a single large net, but dividing the area into smaller plots.
This way you get several anti-bird nets, smaller and easier to install.
