How to choose aviary netting for professional use?

Building an Outdoor Aviary for Breeding

If you are a professional breeder and want your poultry to grow in good conditions, you will certainly build them an outdoor aviary. Chickens, ducks, geese, and other poultry will be able to run outdoors on natural ground, without risk of escape.

Fencing

If you absolutely want a very strong outdoor aviary, good quality wire mesh is an excellent choice.
However, metal prices are constantly rising, and to build a large outdoor aviary, the amount of wire mesh required makes it a very expensive project.

Aviary Netting

A more economical and easier to install alternative: aviary netting. Suitable for all types of poultry and birds.
However, it is important to choose it carefully.

The risk with poor quality aviary netting is that it will wear out too quickly and the animals will escape.

Professional aviary netting must meet certain technical and quality requirements.

Appropriately Sized Mesh

Depending on the type of poultry you are raising and the breed, you will need smaller or larger mesh sizes.

For example, for raising partridges or pheasant chicks (that have already grown), opt for small 25mm mesh.

For chickens, ducks, or geese, 50mm mesh is generally preferred.

Resistant and Durable Netting

As consumers, we generally like to make the right choice when buying and have a quality, durable product.

For professional use, this is even more important: you cannot lose time, productivity, and money because your equipment and materials are not reliable.

Therefore, choose professional aviary netting that is resistant and durable.

UV Resistance

Sunlight and UV rays naturally deteriorate equipment that is exposed to them for extended periods. Both natural and synthetic textile fibers eventually deteriorate and break after long exposure to UV rays.

For your outdoor aviary netting to last several years and remain in good condition, it must have been designed for this purpose.

All our aviary nets have received UV treatment according to the Ciba-ceigy 320 KLY process: this level of protection guarantees that the product will resist sunlight for several years.

Water Resistance

It may seem obvious, but your outdoor aviary will be exposed to bad weather: rain, wind, hail, frost... The net must be rot-proof and not weakened by rain.

Some synthetic textile fibers react poorly to water contact: moisture absorption, fiber stiffening...

All our nets are made of HDPE: High-Density Polyethylene, a rot-proof material that does not absorb water.

Resistance to Pecks and Claws

For numerous and varied reasons, poultry will sometimes peck or claw at the netting that forms their aviary.

An aviary net that is too thin, or simply woven, will very quickly be torn by chickens, geese, ducks, or pheasants.

For professional use, absolutely prefer a net made with knotted and cabled mesh. It will be much more resistant than models made with knotless woven mesh.

The Right Technical Characteristics

Thus, professional aviary netting, in our opinion, meets at least the following conditions:

• Water-resistant and rot-proof
• UV-treated
• Made with knotted cable
• Available in very large sizes

Large-Sized Aviary Netting

For breeding, even if only a few dozen individuals, you need to build one (or more) large outdoor aviaries.
Therefore, you cannot be satisfied with small pre-designed factory nets that would require even more work to tie them together.
