Size guide

How to choose the size of your hay net?

  • 100 mm mesh: limit hay waste, introduce the net to horses.
  • 60 mm mesh: slow down forage intake and prepare the horse for slow feeding.
  • 45 mm mesh: slow feeding.
  • 30 mm mesh: intensify slow feeding, for horses that tolerate it very well.

In summary: the smaller the mesh size, the more forage intake is slowed down to enhance the slow feeding practice.

Care advice
  • Remove small branches, roots, and debris from the net.
  • Wash with clear, cold water.
  • If the hay net is very dirty, wash it with a little Marseille soap or black soap.
  • Never use laundry detergent, cleaning agents, fabric softener, or bleach.

We custom-make your hay net.

What are the advantages of a blanket hay net?

As its name suggests, it is placed like a blanket to cover the trough in which you usually put fodder to feed your horses.

It therefore adapts very well to all types and sizes of hay racks. This hay net offers you great freedom in arranging your stable or paddock.

It can be made in large sizes, so several horses can eat side by side.

Thanks to this hay net attached to the hay rack, horses will not be able to pull out large quantities of fodder every time they eat, and they will not spread it everywhere. You will limit waste and save hay.

How to use the rectangular hay net?

It is designed to cover a feeder or hay rack to prevent horses from burying their heads in it and scattering the hay.
Attach it all around the feeder, over the hay.
There should be no opening on any side where animals could access the food.

What size to choose for the rectangular hay net?

Take the dimensions of your feeder, trough, or hay rack.
The hay net must be at least the same length and width to completely cover the hay.
If you load a lot of hay and it extends above the hay rack, then the hay net must be sized accordingly.

For example:
You have a hay rack measuring 3m x 2m. Once loaded, the fodder extends 50cm in height.
Order a net measuring 3.50m x 2.50m.

Which mesh size to choose?

The mesh size to choose for the hay net depends on the intensity of slow feeding you want for your horses.
It is better to choose large meshes for a horse that is not used to a slow feeder.
Once the horse is accustomed to slow feeding, you can install a net with small meshes.

From 100 to 35 mm: which mesh size for your horse?

The mesh size of your rectangular hay netdetermines how easily the horse can grasp its forage. Are you mainly looking to limit waste? 100 mmoffers comfortable access. To gradually slow down ingestion, opt for 60 mm.

The 45 mm meshcorresponds to standard slow feedingpractice, while the 35 mmrequires more effort to grab the hay and is suitable for horses that are already well-accustomed to this type of feeding.
